Driving a motorhome in Greece

Motorways with many toll booths, a ban on wild camping and odd-even number plate rules in central Athens.

Motorways, tolls and vignettes

What a vignette is: in some European countries you buy a permit before using the motorways, now often digital and linked to the number plate, valid for a set period instead of paying at toll booths.

Motorways are tolled and you pay at each booth, often several times on the same route; the category depends on the vehicle height and axles.

Environmental sticker, ZTL and low emission zones

There is no sticker. In central Athens (Daktylios), on weekdays for most of the year, odd and even number plates alternate: check period, hours and exemptions before entering.

Low emission zones in our data

5 zones, including: Athens Ring - Residential Zone B, Athens Ring - Residential Zone C, Athens Ring - Residential Zone D, Δακτύλιος Αθηνών, Μεγάλος Δακτύλιος Αθηνών.

Useful rules for motorhome travellers

Wild camping is forbidden by law: outside campsites an overnight stay may be fined, especially near beaches.

On ferries from Italy some companies offer «camping on board»: you sleep in your own motorhome on board, if you book it in advance.

Information checked on 30 October 2026. Rules change: always check the official websites before you leave.
