Driving a motorhome in Spain

Few toll motorways, low emission zones (ZBE) in many cities based on the DGT label, and a compulsory panel for bike racks.

Motorways, tolls and vignettes

What a vignette is: in some European countries you buy a permit before using the motorways, now often digital and linked to the number plate, valid for a set period instead of paying at toll booths.

Most motorways (autovías) are free; toll motorways (autopistas), marked AP, are paid at the booth. There is no vignette.

Environmental sticker, ZTL and low emission zones

In a ZBE, access depends on the DGT environmental label (0, ECO, C, B). With a foreign number plate the label cannot be obtained: each city decides how to treat foreign vehicles, sometimes with an online registration before entering.

Low emission zones in our data

56 zones, including: A Coruña - Ciudad Vieja, A Coruña - Marina, Ávila ZBE, Ayuntamiento de Alcalá de Henares, Ayuntamiento de Malaga ZBE, Ayuntamiento de Oviedo - Anillo Interior, Ayuntamiento de Palma, Ayuntamiento de Vitoria-Gasteiz, Cartagena centro, Cartagena ensanche, Casco Urbano, Castellon ZBE….

Useful rules for motorhome travellers

Bike racks and loads sticking out at the back must be marked with the red-and-white striped V-20 panel.

Parking a motorhome is allowed wherever parking is allowed, but without camping: no tables, open awning or emptying tanks outside the proper facilities.

Information checked on 30 October 2026. Rules change: always check the official websites before you leave.
