Driving a motorhome in Hungary

An electronic motorway vignette, a distance-based toll over 3.5 t and zero tolerance for alcohol.

Motorways, tolls and vignettes

A motorway vignette is a permit, now often digital and linked to the number plate, that you buy before using the motorways: it is valid for a set period and there are no toll booths.

Up to 3.5 t you need the electronic vignette (e-matrica), linked to the number plate: buy it online or at petrol stations before joining the motorway. You can choose a national one or one for single counties.

Over 3.5 t there is no vignette: you pay a distance-based toll with the HU-GO system.
